Early on I became a member of the Actor's Studio in NYC, which has been the main influence in my life's work.

The actor must create the fiction on the stage by practicing. Practicing brings technique, technique is not something to strive for, it is a result of continual exploration and the experience of what happens to you when you go on the stage/ before the camera.

The truth is always subjective, but there must be a place where we can all agree. Nature is the exquisite example of non-negotiable truth, in complex and unpredictable uniqueness. A tree is true in essence, and we must look for what is non-negotiable and true in a piece of material. What is the truth in this piece of writing that must be operating on the stage for believability? What must be true for the play to make sense and without which there is no play? The given circumstances are what provide us with a starting point to grow the truth. From the essential "tree" we can grow the truth. There is internal truth and external truth and both must be operating in order for life to happen. We cannot have one without the other, what is seen and unseen are necessary for the actor. The essence of you must be present including the truth of the circumstances in order for anything to be powerful. There is no absolute intrinsic truth to be obtained, who you are and how you experience and what you understand and your capacity to explore the unknown, provide the opportunity for a full expression of the material.

Commitment is the spiritual piece that cements the truth. Only through committing to something do you understand it's value and know your place in it. Our relationship to our ability to take action through commitment sets us apart as who we are. In order to create one must commit to the journey of it, tenacity and willingness provide the essential underpinnings of a fulfilling career.
